10 mistakes to avoid when using plant oils for the skin
Plant oils are true treasures of nature: rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants, they deeply nourish, regenerate, and protect the skin.
But you still need to know how to use them correctly! An oil that is poorly chosen or poorly applied can upset the skin's balance, clog pores, or even cause irritation.
At Naturoleum, we believe that beautiful skin comes from knowledge and simplicity. Here are the 10 most common mistakes to avoid in order to get the most out of your natural oils ?
Choosing an oil that is unsuitable for your skin type
Not all oils are suitable for everyone.
- Dry skin: choose sweet almond oil or avocado oil for their nourishing properties.
- Combination to oily skin: opt for jojoba oil or hemp oil, which are similar to natural sebum.
- Mature skin: prickly pear oil and argan oil are true anti-aging elixirs.
Applying oil to dry skin
A common mistake! Oils should always be applied to slightly damp skin (after showering or using a hydrosol) to promote penetration and seal in moisture.
Using too much
A few drops are enough. Too much oil can saturate the skin and create an uncomfortable greasy film. The ideal amount? 3 to 5 drops for the face, warmed between your hands before application.
Neglecting product quality
A vegetable oil must be virgin, first cold-pressed, and certified organic. At Naturoleum, our oils (almond, argan, jojoba, etc.) are pure, traceable, and COSMOS Ecocert certified to guarantee optimal effectiveness and total respect for your skin and the planet.
Forgetting to store oil properly
Heat, light, and air alter the properties of oils. Store them in a tightly closed bottle, away from light and at room temperature.
Using oxidized oils
Expired or poorly stored oil can become comedogenic. Always check the use-by date and smell: a rancid scent is a sign of oxidation.
Mixing oils indiscriminately
Some oils complement each other, others do not. For example, mixing a light oil such as hemp with a rich oil such as avocado can balance the texture, but you need to know the right proportions.
Choose our pure Naturoleum oils, which you can combine according to your needs without risking imbalance.
Neglecting to remove makeup
Oils can be excellent natural makeup removers, but they must be rinsed off with a warm cloth or floral water to avoid residue and impurities.
Not testing before use
Even natural oils can cause allergic reactions. Always test a small amount on the inside of your arm before using for the first time.
Thinking that “natural” means “magical”
Vegetable oils work gently and require regular use. Results often appear after a few weeks of continuous use. Patience and consistency are the keys to balanced, radiant skin.
