Oil for dry hair: which organic plant oil to nourish and repair it?

In short: the best oil for dry hair depends on how thick it is: organic avocado oil to deeply nourish very dry or thick hair, organic castor oil to coat brittle lengths, organic jojoba oil for fine hair that gets greasy quickly. Used as a weekly oil bath and as a single drop on the ends every day, a cold-pressed organic plant oil leaves hair softer, smoother and shinier from the very first uses.
Rough-feeling hair, tangled ends, dull lengths despite conditioner: these are the signs of hair lacking lipids. A pure plant oil brings exactly what it is missing, with no silicones and no fragrance. Here is how to choose yours and use it to see the difference.
Why does hair get dry?
The scalp produces sebum, a natural oily film that protects the hair. On long, wavy or curly hair, this sebum struggles to travel down to the ends, so the lengths dry out first. Everyday stress adds to this:
- heat from hair dryers, straighteners and curling irons;
- colouring, bleaching and perms;
- sun, sea water and chlorine, then cold weather and central heating in winter;
- harsh shampoos and vigorous brushing.
The result: the hair cuticle lifts, holds water less well, reflects light unevenly and breaks more easily. A plant oil smooths the cuticle and coats the hair fibre.

The 4 best organic plant oils for dry hair
Organic avocado oil: the most nourishing
Rich in oleic acid, organic avocado oil penetrates the fibre and softens the driest lengths. It is the oil for thick, wavy, curly or coily hair, and for hair tired by colouring. You can feel the difference after the very first oil bath: softer hair that detangles more easily. Our avocado oil comes from Spain; it is cold-pressed and certified organic.

Organic castor oil: to strengthen brittle hair
Thick and glossy, organic castor oil coats the hair, strengthens the lengths and helps limit breakage. It repairs the look of damaged ends. Too viscous to use alone on the whole head, it works best in a blend (one third castor oil to two thirds avocado or jojoba oil). Massaged into the scalp, it also promotes hair growth. Our castor oil comes from India.

Organic jojoba oil: for fine hair
Close to sebum, organic jojoba oil nourishes without weighing hair down. It is the oil for fine, dry hair, or dry hair with oily roots: one drop warmed between your palms and smoothed over the ends keeps them tamed all day, with no greasy feel. Our jojoba comes from Panama.

Organic argan oil: the shine finish
Fine and silky, organic argan oil from Morocco is perfect as a finishing touch: two drops on still-damp lengths for supple, shiny hair with less frizz. It pairs very well with a weekly avocado oil bath.
The oil bath for dry hair in 4 steps
- Prepare the blend: one tablespoon of avocado oil and half a tablespoon of castor oil, adjusted to your hair length. Warm the bottle in hot water for a few minutes for a more fluid texture.
- Apply to dry hair, section by section, from mid-lengths to ends. Focus on the ends and avoid the roots if they get greasy quickly.
- Leave on for at least 30 minutes under a warm towel, or overnight for very dry hair.
- Wash with a mild shampoo, twice: apply it to towel-dried hair, work it in, then rinse. Finish with a cool rinse for shine.
Once a week (twice for very damaged hair). For amounts by hair length and rinsing mistakes, see our step-by-step hair oil bath guide.
Our dry hair pack: avocado, castor and jojoba
The dry and damaged hair oil pack brings together the three oils of the full routine: avocado and castor oil for the weekly oil bath, jojoba for the ends every day. Three glass bottles, cheaper than buying them separately.

Prefer to build your own routine? The discount is applied automatically in your basket: 10% off from 2 oils, 15% off from 3 oils. And if you also want longer hair, the hair growth pack (castor, black seed and jojoba) is designed for scalp massage.
A one-week dry hair routine
- Once a week: avocado + castor oil bath before shampooing.
- Every day: one drop of jojoba or argan oil on the ends, on dry or damp hair.
- When washing: mild shampoo, lukewarm rather than hot water, pat dry without rubbing.
- Before heat styling: dry on a warm setting, then one drop of oil on the ends once hair is dry.
After 3 to 4 weeks of regular use, hair is softer, easier to detangle and shinier.
Mistakes to avoid
- Too much oil as a leave-in: one or two drops are enough, otherwise hair looks greasy.
- Pure castor oil on the whole head: too thick, it is hard to rinse out. Always blend it.
- A single shampoo after an oil bath: you usually need two.
- A refined or fragranced oil: choose a virgin, organic, cold-pressed oil that keeps its fatty acids and vitamin E.
Why choose Naturoleum oils?
