Organic avocado oil: benefits and uses for skin, body and hair

Organic avocado oil: benefits and uses for skin, body and hair

Rich, smooth and a beautiful golden green, avocado oil is one of the most nourishing plant oils there is. Very dry skin, damaged hands, dehydrated hair, a belly that feels tight during pregnancy: it is the ultimate comfort oil, especially in autumn and winter. Here is everything you need to know to use it well.

What is organic avocado oil?

Avocado oil is extracted from the fruit's pulp (not the stone). Cold-pressed, it keeps its natural green colour, its slightly vegetal scent and most of its nutrients. Our organic avocado oil is 100% pure, certified organic and cold-pressed, with no added fragrance.

What it contains (and why it matters for skin)

  • Lots of oleic acid (omega 9): a fatty acid close to our skin's own lipids, which softens skin and helps it retain water.
  • Vitamin E, a natural antioxidant that also protects the oil from going rancid.
  • Phytosterols and natural pigments (chlorophyll, carotenoids), which give it its colour.

The result: a rich oil that deeply nourishes and leaves skin supple and comfortable. To understand the difference between hydrating and nourishing, read Hydrating or nourishing: what do plant oils really do?

The benefits of avocado oil

For very dry skin and the body

Its number one use. Applied after the shower, it nourishes rough areas: legs, elbows, knees, heels. Its finish is a little richer than a dry oil, perfect for the evening or in winter.

For dry and mature facial skin

A few drops are enough, preferably in the evening. It suits dry, dehydrated or mature skin that lacks comfort. For combination to oily skin, choose a lighter oil such as jojoba (see also plant oils for mature skin).

For hands and cuticles

In winter, it is the most effective oil for dry, chapped hands, especially as an overnight treatment under cotton gloves. The full routine is in dry, chapped hands in winter.

For dry hair

As a pre-shampoo oil bath, it brings suppleness and shine back to dry or damaged lengths. Torn between avocado and castor oil? Compare them in castor oil or avocado oil for dry hair.

During pregnancy

Massaged daily into the belly, hips and thighs, it helps keep stretching skin supple and comfortable. That is why it is part of our stretch marks and pregnancy pack, alongside sweet almond and prickly pear seed oil.

How to use avocado oil

  • Body: a small amount on slightly damp skin after the shower, massaged until absorbed.
  • Face: 2 to 3 drops in the evening, warmed between your hands and pressed gently onto the skin. Or 1 drop mixed into your usual cream.
  • Hair: on lengths and ends, 30 minutes to overnight before shampooing.
  • Hands and feet: as an overnight mask under cotton gloves or socks.

Tip: as it feels quite rich, mix it half and half with a more fluid oil such as sweet almond oil for a smoother body massage.

Precautions and storage

  • Do a patch test in the crook of your elbow before first use, especially if you are allergic to avocado or latex (cross-allergies are possible).
  • On oily or blemish-prone skin, use sparingly or keep it for the body.
  • Store away from light and heat, tightly closed. It is normal for it to turn cloudy or thicken in the cold: it becomes clear again at room temperature.

FAQ – Avocado oil

Is avocado oil greasy?
It is rich and absorbs more slowly than a dry oil. Used sparingly on damp skin, it does not leave a lasting greasy film.

Can I use it on my face?
Yes, ideally on dry or mature skin, in small amounts in the evening.

How is it different from argan oil?
Avocado is richer and more nourishing; argan is lighter and absorbs faster. Discover the benefits of argan oil.

Why is it green?
Thanks to the chlorophyll and carotenoids naturally present in the pulp: a sign of a cold-pressed, unrefined oil.
